1 h 6 min (38.7 km) via National Hwy 544H, Bhavani - Kavindapadi Rd and SH 15(from Erode)
Pachaimalai , Arulmigu Subramanyaswamy Temple is located in Gobichettipalayam, a quiet town in the Erode district. Gobi, as it is shortly called, has two hill temples - Pachaimalai and Pavalamalai.
Pachaimalai and Pavalamalai is considered to be a great reason to justify the town's ethics.Pachaimalai is also colloquially pronounced as 'Pachamalai' Arulmigu Balamurugan, the child god, son of Shiva Parvathi, the god of army, the teacher of all, finds his place in this scenic hill temple. The Lord appears in a very beautiful form and it is very difficult to take one's eye off.
The Poojai activities at the templeare renowned. The 'ArthaJama' poojai resembles the one at Palani.Arulmigu Balamurugan takes the simplest form with white clothes sans his ornamental jewels. This is the most peaceful scene, one can ever get in his life.
Though the pachaimalai subramaniyaswamy temple is ancient, the structure has been built starting 1967.The most recent 'Swarna Bandhana Kumbabishekam' was held in June 2006 in Pachaimalai.
Other deities residing in the temple are Vidya Ganapathi (form of common sense, quick wit and knowledge), Maragatheeswarar, Maragatha Valli, Guru Dhakshinamurthy, Kalyana Subramanyar, Anjaneyar, Navagraham and Kala Bhairavar.
Urchava Murthys are Dhandayudhapani, Shanmugar, Subramanyar Pradhosha Moorthy and Aiyappar. Golden Chariot and Golden Peacock mount have been donated by the public to the Almighty.
A wooden chariot runs around the Pachaimalai hill during Panguni Uthiram Chariot Festival.
The temple is renowned for the 'Vaasthu' poojai where people bring the first brick to perform poojai at the Sannidhanam.
'Ayyappa Maalai' in Karthigai month is also started here. Couples who are in need of children perform their Sashti fasting here.
It is a belief that the couple in fasting at Pachaimalai would get a child. Anyone who is not married pray 'Kalyana' Subramanyar and Guru Dakshinamurthy for their requests to be answered in Pachaimalai
In Tamil grammar, land mass in this world is divided into five types of eco-systems.
Mountain, hill and associated area is called 'Kurinji'.
The lord of Kurinji is Murugan and he has made the hills as his abode. Majority of all hill temples found in Tamilnadu and elsewhere are dedicated to Lord Subramanyan
Once upon a time, Saint Dhurvasar reached Kunnathur that lies 18 KMs south of present Gobi town. He worshipped at Shiva temple at Kunnathur. Then he found out that a place called Modachur on the outskirts of present Gobi town is a good place to perform his routine worship of Shiva. While workshipping, he wanted to have Darshan of Lord Subramanya. Not finding a temple, he went into penance to find out the best place for the worship.
He found through his penance that there is a Subramanya temple on a small hill at a distance of around 1.5 kms from Modachur and the main deity faced west.
The saint reached the hill to find Lord Subramanya and continued his worship. He also learnt the similarities between the temple and Palani where the Lord is facing west as Dhandapani.
All these events were forgotten as time proceeded. Around 1954, a landlord named P.K.Kuppuswamy Gounder visited the temple.
The life turned around for him that moment as he decided to renovate the temple. This was after he felt that the Lord is not taken care by anybody. He understood the need for regular poojai and the care that the temple craves,Starting then, the renovation moved into a fast pace.First Swarnabandhana MahaKumbabishekam was performed in 1980 led by Thiru.P.K.Eswaran as renovation committee head.Since then, scores of people have joined the renovation committee and lot of work has happened in the temple
The latest and second Swarnabandhana Kumbabishekam was performed around June 2006. It is uncommon to find Swarnabandhanam being done for the deities.
You can really count the number of temples where Swarnabandhanam (Gold plating the base of statue where it stands) has been performed for deities in Tamilnadu and elsewhere.
It should be noted that a large wooden chariot runs around Pachaimalai for every Panguni Uthiram during the Chariot (Ther) Festival. It is the largest wooden chariot in this area after Avinashi Ther.A golden chariot is available for Murugan to play around his abode. The beauty of Dhandapani in golden chariot should be seen and as it is unexplainable.Arulmigu Dhandapani goes to golden chariot in his mount 'golden peacock' with complete golden attire.
This cannot be seen even in Palani and Thiruchendur.
Now, there is seven period regular poojai performed with two period of Abishekam daily. The night time ArdhaJaama Poojai is performed in comparison with Palani.
Pachaimalai is located 3Kms from Gobi town centre.
There are two ways to reach Pachaimalai from Gobi town: one from Modachur (Gobi - Kunnathur Road) and another from Karattur (Erode - Sathy Main Road).
As there are no buses, one can hire an auto/taxi to reach Pachaimalai.Pachai Saathi for Shanmugar on Panguni Uthiram Pachai Saathi is a way of worship which denotes overall growth and wellness of the people

Erode city is known since ancient days as a patron of Saivism.
It is situated between two odais-canals-it came to be known as Erodai and later changed as Erode.Attributing E to Easan, some say Erode is named after Shiva Easan. The other story has a very fascinating imagination.Lord Shiva has Ganga on his head which makes it wet-Eeram.Odu also means head as Thalai Odu.
As there is eeram by Gangas occupation on Head or Odu,the place is named Erode.Erode is mentioned as Marandhai,Mayalii,Arthakapalpuri in Tamil literatures.
This is one of the ancient temples in the Kongu region.
Lord Mahimaleeswara graces his devotees with Mother Mangalambikai in the temple facing west as Mahalingam.
There are two versions about the history of the temple. Those belonging to Lanka king Ravana dynasty were staunch Shiva devotees.Of them Mali, Sumali and Mahimali were returning to their home land from Himalayas after darshan of Lord Shiva.Sandhyavandanam(evening prayer) was a ritual which Shiva Bhaktas should not miss. While dusk was nearing, they performed the prayer on the banks of Cauvery running through dense Vilwa trees by installing a six feet tall Shivalinga and completed their ritual. This is the linga installed in the temple.
As the linga was worshipped by Mahimali, the lord is named mahimaleeswarar and the place Mahimaleeswaram. The other story is historical in nature.During the pallava rule in Tamilnadu, the regions between Pandya and chola parts were ruled small cheftians known as Irukkuvelir. It is said that one Mahimali ruled this Kongu region during the 10th century and built this temple, hence the place was named Mahimaleeswaram.Sundaramurthy Swamigal, one among the three Thevaran Nayanmars performed presence on Lord Mahimaleeswarar along with his wives Paravayar and Sangiliar.King Cheraman Peruman served during his stay here. The tower of the temple is 35ft tall standing majestically whose shades do not fall on sidesThe temple has 63 nayanmars and 16 lingas installed in this temple. Mahimaliswarar Temple is among the chief attractions of the city which was built in the 12th century.Constructed under the reigns of Narasimha Pallava King, the temple is dedicated to God Mahimaliswarar and Goddess Mangalambikai. The highlighting feature of this temple is Rajagopuram, the main entrance of temple.Chithirai Sadhaya Ther Thiruviza is the chief festival that is celebrated with great enthusiasm.Men and women gather before Lord Mahimaleeswarar seeking his blessings for a fair conclusion of marriage alliances, child boon and progress in education. The 35ft.Vimana(tower) of the temple has a majestic apearance, the shades of which do not fall on earth.63 Nayanmars(celebrated shiv devotees) and 16 shivalingas are added significance to the temple. Car festival is grandly celebrated in the temple of the Sadaya star day in the month of Chithirai(April-May) in praise of Saint Tirunavukkarasar, one of the Theveram authors followed by the wedding festival of Lord Mahimaleeswarar and Mother Mangalambikai in a splendid manner.

Kasthuri Aranganathar Temple

"Kasthuri Aranganathar Temple, Erode," 6 min (1.2 km) via Brough Rd and Kamaraj St
9 min (2.0 km) via Mettur Rd and Sathy Rd
9 min (1.6 km) via Mettur Rd(from Erode)
Kasthuri Aranganathar Temple is one of the ancient temples of the region. The 1,080 years old temple belongs to the chola period, which was constructed by 1st Paranthaka Chola King.
The sanctum of the temple houses God Kasthuri Aranganathar and Goddess Kamalavalli Thayar along with Anjanayar.
Situated in the middle of the city, the temple hosts celebrations of festivals like Vaigunda Ekadasi and Puratasi Ther THIRUVIZA.
It i located about 2kms from ERODE Bus Stand.
This temple overlooks the Aarudhra Kabaaleeswara Temple and is equally magnificient and might have been built around the same time. The temple has several unique features to it.
The main deity of the temple is Kasthuri Ranganathar, but he is very different from any other Ranganatha Perumal one might have witnessed in other temples.
The legend of the temple says that Durvasa Maharishi, well known for his short temper, once got angry with Lord Brahma and cursed him.Brahma came here and  worshipped Lord Vishnu, and got Saapa Vimochana. So true to the legend, the Lord has one arm outstretched and palm extended over Durvasa Maharishi as if to pacify him  and the other is stretched towards Brahma who unlike in other Ranganatha temples is not placed on a lotus over the Lord's navel , but he is being held by the Lord over his left hand.
One can get to see Durvasa Maharishi by peeping into the Sanctum Sanctorium. The entrance has been deliberately built that way so that the devotees do not disturb the sage and anger him!!!
Another unique feature is that the Dwara Paalakas ( guards ) of the Lord who are usually found on either side of the sannadhi, are found at the feet of the Lord worshipping him!!!
These are said to be Devas who had been cursed to become demons and had attained Saapa Vimochana by worshipping Kasthuri Ranganatha and hence are found at his feet serving him!
EVR Periyar 's family has made several contributions to this temple. His father has made the crown and feet of the Lord in Silver ( they are really huge) and his mother has laid the pavement for the devotees to circumambulate.
The Goddess here is called Kamalavalli Thaayar.
She looks so serene and welcoming !!
A wonderful temple worth visiting if you are in the vicinity!!
The Dwarapalakas who were cursed by an angry Sage Durvasa are seen at the feet of Lord Ranganatha offering their service.
Lord Kasthuri Ranganatha is seen with his right hand on Sage Durvasa in a posture of cooling the normally angry sage.

In response to that message, the villagers Erected shed with‘KANANGU’ a kind of forest herbs. In due course, the thatched ceiling was replaced by tiled ceiling.Funds were collected from philanthropists and the temple structure underwent renovation repeatedly and, the gopuram was built above the SANCTUM – SANCTORIUM.Shobana Mantapa in front of the temple with 24-pillared mantapa with carvings of architectural beauty was constructed in 1967.The Artha Mantapa, Maha Mantapa and Shobana Mantapa enhance the beauty of the temple.Separate shrines for such gods as Vinayaka, Bommairayan, Madeswara SARUGU Mariamman and Muniyappa are found in and around the temple. The Bommarayan temple is in Artha mandapam facing west side and the Ganesh temple is in front mandapam facing east.God Matheshwaran is placed on a slab which is on the southern side of the Goddess temple.Near the temple pond a small temple facing west is constructed for Sarugu Mariamman is placed. The kumbhabishegam for this temple was conducted on second of this month. On the west side of the temple pond a big pit is present. In that pit water will be stagnant only on rainy seasons. Then he allowed the people to prune trees from the forests for the festival.Another British officer who was staying in the Traveller’s Bungalow did not like singing, dancing and playing the drums on the festival days.He passed an order to put an end to such activities. The next moment he has an awesome vision in which he saw two maidens with snakes around their necks.
He became aware of his mistake and prayed to the goddess to bear with his fault. Then he revoked the orders and allowed the music and dance to go on as usual.Yet another British officer aimed his gin at the walls of the temple and fired.Consequently he lost his vision. He prayed to the goddess and begged Her for forgiveness. His vision was restored by the holy water which was fetched from the temple and sprinkled on his eyes. One Sheit from Bangalore halted his motorcycle and enquired about the temple. The people told him that the temple was known as Amman Temple. At once, he, in a funny tine, asked them whether there any ‘AYYAN TEMPLE’ nearby with such a satirical remark he started his vehicle. But it did not move.It stood still.
Then he realized that he had incurred the wrath of the Deity by his sacrilegious remark, then he begged her to pardon him for his mistake. He broke up a coconut in from of the temple in atonement for his fault and then only he could start his vehicle.
Once a lonely pilgrim wanted to stay in the temple due to the nightfall.A ferocious tiger appeared before him.
It struck fear into him and he prayed to the goddess for safety and survival.By the grace of the goddess, the tiger went away from that place,Once tents were put up in Bannari in 1954 to train the soldiers. The camp officer used to go to the temple daily to pray to the goddess. One day he found the temple closed in the evening. So, he prayed from the mantapa in front of the temple.
To his surprise, he saw a flicker of bright light in the sanctum sanatorium.Next day he told about this miracle to the officers of the temple and hosted a tea-party too.Once, during the festival day, a necromancer practiced black magic and threatened the devotees by setting a bear and a tiger on them adamantly.By the grace of the goddess the bear was turned into a stone and the tiger was turned into a sand-hill.
Likewise, numerous miracles are performed by the goddess time and again.Transportation facilities are made available to the devotees on important days. Shiva is known by devotees as Annamalayar or Arunachaleswarar.
And this is believed to be the largest temple in the world dedicated to Shiva. The history of this Annamalayar temple dates back to thousand years.
Mention has been made in the Thevaram and Thiruvasagam, both great works in Tamil.
Bramha took the form of a swan and flew to see the crown of Siva.
Unable to see the crown, Bramha saw a thazhambu flower which had decked Siva's crown falling down.
He asked the flower as to the distance of Siva's crown whereby the flower replied that he had been falling for forty thousand years. Bramha, realizing that he would not be able to reach the crown asked the flower to act as a false witness.
The thazhambu flower acting as a false witness declared that Brahma had seen the crown.
Siva became angry at the deception and cursed that Bramha should have no temple on earth and that the thazhambu flower should not be used while praying to Lord Siva. The place where Lord Siva stood as a column of fire to eliminate the ego is Thiruvannamalai.
The Saiva cult is a world phenomenon. Thiruvannamalai is the capital of Saivism.
The South Indian deity Siva is the God of all countries. Annamalaiannal is the most sacred of the names of the manifestation of Lord Siva.

There is a naturally formed Siva Linga of Black granite at the side.
The story behind the availability of this shivalinga is also interesting.
Earlier this place was having deep forest covered under the then King of Raghunath Sekhar Deo( 1849-1917) / 1858 – 1917, 18th Raja Saheb of Gangpur State ( from which the Dist. of Sundargarh created ) , King of Sundergarh.
King’s cow folks were coming to this place for roaming and grazing. Once king’s favorite cow went missing and when king came to know about this, he ordered the cowboys to assist him into the jungle to track down his dear cow.
After searching the jungle thoroughly, they discovered the cow near a stone and to thier surprise the cow was sprinkling / poured milk over it. Immediately king ordered to drag out the stone with his elephant, so it was tried but the elephant died immediately while trying to move the stone.
Feeling frustrated and exhausted king camped nearby to rest for the evening and at night he had dreams of the same stone after which it is learned that the stone is actually a Linga of Lord Shiva.
Next day morning he rushed to the place and to his astonishment there he found a stream flowing from the foot of the stone and soon the Stone (Linga) was submerged. Witnessing the glimpse of God’s miracle, he built a temple nearby and donated 590 acres of land to the Bhuyan community for maintenance and puja offering of deity Lord Shiva .
Since then, Lord Shiva is worshiped here by the bhuyan priests and not by Brhamins which is again a different instance of the worshipping place likewise at Maa Tarini of Ghatgaon ( Keonjhra Dist.)
In the process of time this temple is revamped and renovated to a bigger one with the donations from devotees. In 1987, Jagat Guru Swarupananda Saraswati Maharaj (Sankaracharjya) inaugurated the new temple which is standing at present.
Now in this temple puja is offered by Dehuri families. This temple is taken over by Deputy Commissioner of Endowment, Odisha in the year 1999, vide no 8606 (7)69,SNG,7-6-99.
Now this temple is managed by Sri Ghogareswar Mahadeb Trust.
The main trustee of this is Ghogadmall Gadodia.
This trust manages the day to day functioning of the temple.
Due to it’s lush green scenic environment with full of green trees this place is also used for picnic during winter season.

The name Machkund derived from a pilgrimage point called 'Matsya Kunda'near the township of Paderu in Andhra Pradesh.
A beautiful township called 'Onukudelli' has grown around this lovely place. The aboriginal tribe of 'Bondas' live near this waterfalls. It has two sub-waterfalls one on the Odisha side and the other on the Andhra Pradesh side.
The waterfalls lie in picturesque surroundings.
It is one of the best tourist spots in Southern India.
The 175-metre high single fall cascade of Duduma waterfall tears through the rugged rocks of the Eastern Ghats and the dark green deciduous forest that is so widespread in this region. It creates an exhilarating scene amidst the rustic greenery right along the border of Andhra Pradesh and Odisha. It is not the conventional tourist spot one usually visits when in Odisha but the beauty of the coastal state does not end with sea beaches and temples. Located around 70 km from Jeypore, Duduma waterfall attracts those travellers who love nature and want to explore places beyond the stereotypical boundary of tourism.Falling off River Machkund, which shares its name with the local township and gets its name from the pilgrimage site Matsya Kunda near Paderu in Andhra Pradesh, the waterfall smashes into a billion white crystals 574 feet down on the ground. The grandeur is at its full display especially during and after the monsoon. Along with the picturesque waterfall, there is also a hydel power project plant and a customary dam to facilitate it. With prior permission from the authorities, you can pay a visit to the powerhouse and get a first-hand experience of how this alternate source of energy is created.
Altogether, with the stunning natural beauty as well as the scope of scientific exploration make Duduma Waterfall a must-visit attraction site if you want to see the untouched, virgin sides of Odisha-Andhra Pradesh. The best time to visit any waterfall near Jeypore is after the monsoon when you can see them in full bloom. September to November is therefore the best time to visit the waterfalls since the streams shrink considerably with the coming of winter. Jeypore is well connected and can be reached from Visakhapatnam. Timings-Open All time. Entry fees- No entry fee. Holiday-No holidays.

Flora
Sacred groves were once common at almost all villages in Sattari. They traditionally render protection to a variety of flora and fauna.
Copardem, three kilometres from Valpoi, is a village famed for the sacred grove tradition known locally as Devachi rai, a tradition of community conservation carried out in the name of the local deity.
Formerly spread across 37,620 m2 of government land, much of the sacred grove is now encroached upon for cashew plantations and agriculture.
The sacred grove is an excellent example of the old tradition of uneducated villagers protecting their environment.
Among its variety of flora are towering trees such as shidam (Tetrameles nudiflora) which support various other life forms in the grove.
Creepers like garkani (Entada scandens) with their sword-like pods are found on the shidam, while the tree also houses beehives.
The grove also has an evergreen species of Ashoka, which bears unique saffron-coloured flowers.
Pandanus furcatus, known locally known as kegadi, attracts village women when it bears flowers covered in yellow and soft thickets.
During the monsoon, bioluminescent fungi growing on dead wood glitter at night.
The grove is also conducive for the growth of a variety of edible mushrooms, such as roen alami, khutyali, sonyali and shringar.
In addition to mammals, the tall trees attract birds, including the crested serpent eagle, Malabar grey hornbill and pied hornbill.
Nanoda village, 11 km from Valpoi has two sacred groves out of which one lies on the border of Maloli and Nanoda and the other in Nanoda.
The latter is slowly being weathered away by changing values and encroachments.
In the past, large areas of forest land were protected through sacred groves such as Nirankarachi Rai.
One would find various species of indigenous trees in these groves and no one dared cut a tree.
In this way, villagers ensured their protection.
The densely forested groves were also used by villagers to keep sculptures of village deities.
Today, because of encroachments, the size of the groves has decreased, while the sculptures lie exposed to the vagaries of nature.
Nanoda's Nirankarachi Rai, formerly spread across a large area, is now confined to a small patch where the vulnerable species hedu (satinwood), khait (Mimosa catechu), and chafara (red frangipani) trees are found.
Majestic trees such as bhillo maad (coconut) have already been felled. Animals such as sheryo (pangolin) and shekaro (Malabar giant squirrel) are found in sacred groves.
Attractions
Mhadei Wildlife Sanctuary is an area of high biodiversity and may soon become a Tiger reserve because of the presence of resident Bengal tigers.
Although tiger sightings are extremely rare, the thrill and anticipation of coming across one will pull you towards exploring this area one weekend.
Driving up this unique natural landscape, dotted with waterfalls and hills, peaks and valleys, is an experience in itself.
The three highest peaks in Goa are situated in the hill ranges of the sanctuary.
They are Sonsogod (1027 mts), Talavche Sada (812 mts) and Vageri (725 mts), which actually means, ‘abode of tiger’.
The whole sanctuary acts as a catchment for the river.
Most of the area has succumbed to the biotic pressure with agriculture and human interference replacing the rich natural vegetation of the past by cashew / kumeri cultivation.
The vegetation of the area is mostly semi evergreen moist and dry deciduous type with pockets of evergreen forest on its northern extremity. Current documentation indicates the presence of many rare and endangered plant species.
Forestation and Sacred Groves One of the 25 mega biodiversity hot spots in the world, the sanctuary harbors more than a thousand species of flowering plants and a vast variety of endemic orchids.
The high precipitation here results in luxuriant forests and highly economically valuable tree species, canes, bamboos, ferns, epiphytes, lichens, orchids, microbes and micro-organisms which are found in abundance.
A number of sacred groves are known to exist here.
The Mhadei River, known downstream as the Mandovi River, the lifeline of the state of Goa, originates in Karnataka, passes 9.4 km through the Mahdei Wildlife Sanctuary and meets the Arabian Sea at Panaji in Goa.
Other Attractions
Mhadei Sanctuary is noted for its many waterfalls, especially the twin Vazra Sakla waterfalls and the Virdi Falls in the Chorla Ghats region in the Swapnagandha valley forest near Virdi village.
Vazra Sakla falls are one of the most distinguishing landmarks of the region.
These water of these falls is fed by the Haltar nullah and joins the Valvanti River in Virdi village of Maharashtra.
